Exploring Bangkok's Authentic Charms

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

Horrifying news about events unfolding in the country, which has been bestowed the title 'Land of Smile,' is flooding all social media channels. Nevertheless, our team charged into Bangkok for a 6-day, 5-night trip to serve up an authentic experience of that place to your plate:

HOTEL

Over that 6-day, 5-night. We are honoured to be invited to the following hotels for reviews.

White Ivory Bed & Breakfast Hotel

White Ivory Bed & Breakfast hotel is located along a narrow alley.

When we first walked in through the door, we were greeted by the receptionist for the check-in process.

Water was served to us during the wait in the lobby. The overall design of the place consists of chandeliers, wooden flooring, and shelves, which resonates with an antique vibe.

The second floor is a common area where there are keyboards and string instruments available to connect with your inner Mozart, computers for your networking needs, board games for bonding, and a reading corner for when quiet time is needed.

For smokers, there's a balcony with an ashtray ready for you to relieve some stress in the air.

Finally, it's time to walk you through their room types! First, we have the Deluxe Twin Bed with Balcony, with a room size of 226 sq'ft. There's enough room for two but a little too crowded for three.

Next up is the Suite Balcony, spacious enough for a dressing table, closet, sofa, and a king-sized bed.

Lastly, the King Duplex Suite is guaranteed to give you an awe-inspiring punch the moment you open the door. A two-story room that is ideal for a night chill-out session if you're going in groups like us. Without a second guess, we had ours, of course, with drinks, snacks, and heart-to-heart talks.

Convenience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Manage your needs at ease as the hotel is surrounded by street foods and convenience stores.

  • 7 mins walk to Krung Thon Buri BTS

  • Krung Thon Buri BTS → Icon Siam: Take Gold Line to Charoen Nakhon Station)

  • Krung Thon Buri BTS → Shopping Paradise: Take Silom Line to National Stadium (All the malls such as Siam Paragon, Siam Centre, etc. are just walking distance away)

  • Krung Thon Buri BTS → Wat Paknam (Big Buddha Statue): Take Silom Line to Wutthakat

Sanitary & Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The rooms are pretty well maintained. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for the common room as it’s pretty dusty. Toiletries: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✅ Shower gel, Shampoo & Conditioner ✅ Body & Face towels ✅ Toilet rolls ✅ Hair Dryer They do not provide toothbrushes and toothpaste. Two of the rooms also experienced issues with the shower heater. Breakfast: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Daily breakfast provided at The Pattern Boutique Hotel, which is a min walk away. There are three options for their breakfast and it is freshly made after you submit your order.

The Pattern Boutique Hotel

The Pattern Boutique Hotel is a sister property of White Ivory Bed & Breakfast that is not far from each other. In contrast to White Ivory, its design leans more towards a modern blend with a Muji style.

You don't have to worry about looking shaggy when heading out, as mirrors are scattered everywhere, constantly reminding you to check yourself out.

We booked a Deluxe Room for ourselves in this hotel. Despite having a queen-sized bed and a single one in the top bunk, the mobility is somewhat limited for three people due to the room's size.

Their bathroom, toilet, and sink are separated. Most of what they provide is almost the same as what White Ivory offers.

Convenience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐ Sanitary & Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Toiletries: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Same as White Ivory, but we did not experience any heater issue. Breakfast: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Remarks: The sound barrier over here is really weak, so not preferable for light-sleeper.

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G is located in the Silom area which is quite a strategic location in Bangkok if you’re just looking to hang around near the city centre.

We truly loved the interior of the hotel room, it is a full white colour theme hotel room and the toilet tiles are polka dot type, which is very instagrammable !

The room that we stayed in is a G Deluxe Room, it’s very comfortable and the room comes with a decent city view too.

Our Pullman Bangkok Hotel G review comes with a Executive Club benefits where we get to enjoy

  1. Buffet Breakfast from 6am to 10:30am

  2. All-You-Can-Eat Afternoon Refreshments from 2pm to 4pm

  3. Evening Hours : offering unlimited tapas and free-flow drinks from 5pm to 7pm

Convenience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sanitary & Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Toiletries: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Breakfast: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Remarks: The Buffet breakfast selections is quite limited for a 5 star hotels

Grand China Bangkok

Grand China Bangkok is at the heart of Chinatown. If you are the kind who enjoys night markets, Chinese street food, and cultures, then this is the right place for you.

There isn't any station around that area. Nevertheless, it isn't really necessary as they are rich with food and activities in Chinatown, likewise, Grand China Bangkok.

That brings us to the topic: What are the facilities we can get at Grand China Bangkok?

🍷 Gen Z Bar & Bistro

Just as the name suggests, Gen Z Bar is pumped with young blood, from its vibrant-coloured bean bags, LED light banners, pool table, graffiti art to Friday live band.

It has a view that oversees the old and new town of Bangkok too.

That place is definitely a gem to rekindle with the youth in you —— A place for the rebels to rule.

🌃 Sky View 360º

This restaurant provides you with a 360º view as it rotates subtly while you enjoy your meal.

A romantic place that swells with a lovey-dovey ambiance is just the right place to go for an anniversary, Valentine's Day, or any special occasion that you can name, which requires a boost of affections.

If you are lucky even, you could even catch a glimpse of fireworks to top the day.

🌊 River View Bar

River View is just a floor below the Sky View bar. Over there, you can enjoy your drink while you submerge yourself in the weightless pull of pool water. Let your mind drift away as you float with the gentle waves.

Other than those highlighted, Grand China Hotel also has:

  • 🏋️‍♀️ Gym

  • 🥡 Siang Ping Loh Restaurant

  • ☕️ G Gallery and Cuisine —— Buffet Breakfast

  • 🍛 Ratchawong Street Food

After spending the whole day utilising their facilities, it's time to crash in the room. We stayed in the Junior Suite and Suite Room respectively. Both rooms are probably the size of a typical studio home, topped with a wide panel of windows that give you the breathtaking view of the city with every turn you take.

But of course, the Suite Room is more grand with an additional balcony available. Its living room is also separated from the bedroom, giving off a close-to-home kind of setting.

Convenience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It isn’t convenient if you are looking to travel around Bangkok using BTS. If you are fine with just chilling at a spot then it works well. Sanitary & Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️ Bathtub is available. However, exercise caution with the bathtub, as it may have cracks that could cause cuts. The cleanliness of the water is questionable, as it appears slightly yellowish when the tub is filled to a shallow depth. Toiletries: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✅ Shower gel & Shampoo ✅ Body & Face towels ✅ Toilet rolls ✅ Hair Dryer ✅ Toothpaste and Toothbrushes ✅ Cotton Swabs ✅ Shower Cap Sadly they do not have conditioner, but fret not, you can find a hair salon just around the corner to get your hair silky clean again with only 200 baht. (Price varies depending on your hair volume and length) Breakfast: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Breakfast is buffet style, so it's understandable that the food isn't as fresh, which may not meet Michelin's standards if you are expecting that.
